Tennessee’s Road Team Captains are professional truck drivers who take the message of highway safety all across Tennessee. The goal of Tennessee’s Road Team is to create a safe driving environment and save lives on our highways by educating motorists, especially new teen drivers, on how to safely share the road with large trucks and commercial vehicles. To bring this free highway safety education program to your school or organization, please complete the scheduling form below. Please request to schedule events at least two weeks in advance.
- Touch – A – Truck – We will bring out our big truck where the students or participants are able to experience first hand what it is like to sit behind the wheel of a tractor trailer. We will educate on the “No-Zone” areas of a truck, which are huge blind spots where the truck driver can’t see the motorist.
- Fatal vision Goggles – These are our intoxication goggles that demonstrate how dangerous impaired driving can be. We have activity kits that go hand-in-hand with the use of our goggles. Students or participants can wear these goggles and try to walk our marked straight line that shows how alcohol can impact your control. We also offer Marijuana goggles where students and participants can put on the goggles to learn about the negative effects that this drug can cause. We pair these with a light ball tossing game using multi-colored balls to demonstrate what marijuana does to your vision and mind. Lastly, we have opioid and drowsy glasses that simulate the risks of being drowsy as well as taking opioids.
- Speaker / Presentation – We provide a presentation on highway safety and being around big trucks on the road. We have 4 short informational videos to show with our presentation, as well.
- Pedal karts – We are able to set up a pedal kart track where students and participants can attempt to complete the course while wearing our Fatal Vision goggles to mimic drunk driving. We would need a gymnasium or paved surface for the karts.
- Drowsy Driving Presentation – This is a PowerPoint presentation geared specifically at Drowsy Driving where our Road Team Captain can educate on all things Drowsy Driving.
Older Driver Safety
CarFit – CarFit is an educational program that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles “fit” them. The program also provides information and materials on community-specific resources that could enhance their safety as drivers and/or increase their mobility in the community.
At a CarFit event, a team of trained technicians and/or health professionals work with each participant to ensure they “fit” their vehicle properly for maximum comfort and safety. A CarFit check takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
Yellow DOT – Participants in the program will receive a Yellow DOT decal, a Yellow DOT folder, and a medical information sheet.
The participant will complete the medical information sheet, which consists of their emergency contact information, medical information, recent surgeries, hospital preferences, current medications, insurance and physician information. A personalized photo should also be taken and placed on the sheet. This information will be the sole responsibility of the participant and should remain in the glove compartment inside the yellow folder provided.
